Eugene Friesen: UNDER THE SUN
For string octet (double string quartet) @17 min.
Commissioned by Pacific Serenades of Los Angeles and premiered in February of 2006. Under The Sun features joyful melodic and intricate rhythmic writing for strings. The piece has five distinct sections, but is played without a pause. This recording was made at the premiere by members of Pacific Serenades: Roger Wilkie, Miwako Watanabe, Sungil Lee, Brendan Speltz, violins; Simon Oswell, Connie Kupka, violas; David Speltz, Armen Ksajikian, cellos.
